Achberghütte

It is generally not allowed to bring a pet. Exemptions are possible, but have to be discussed with the owners.

Sorry, no smoking in the Achberghütte. You are allowed to smoke on the patio.

There is a little supermarket just five minutes from the house. It also offers a lot of organic food. In the village there is a butcher shop and a bakery. Several farmers offer homemade organic food. A little fish shop in Melleck (3km) has excellent homemade smoked fish.

By the way, our tab water is excellent drinking water from a local spring.

All Restaurants in Unken and the neighbor villages offer traditional Austrian food with a high standard. Our personal favourit in Unken is „Gasthof Schütterbad“. In Lofer we recommend „Landhaus Eva-Marie“.

If you are up for real local food you should go to „Gfoellerwirt“ or walk up to „Jausenstation Wildalm“. They both offer regional specialties and a marvellous mountain view!

Real gourmets are recommended to go to the city of Salzburg (about 35km). „Ikarus at Hangar 7“ ist excellent, just as „Zum Buberl Gut“, which is a little less expensive.

Our secret tipp in Salzburg is a little Restaurant called „Wasserfall“ (Linzer Gasse 10) – cosy, friendly with very good food and wine for a reasonable price.

By the way, in most of the Austrian Restaurants smoking is still allowed!

In summer you can hike or ride a mountain bike on hundreds of kilometers of mountain trails or go climbing. The river Saalach next to our house is a popular river for rafting and canoeing. The local „Alpenbad Unken“ (with in- and outdoor pools) is open most of the year.

15km from Unken you can swim in the idyllic Lake Thumsee. Unken also offers horseback riding, a local museum and several cultural events and parties throughout the year.

Both, in summer and winter, we can organize a cosy cabin high up in the mountains for you.

Winter offers all kinds of sports, mostly skiing.

The local ski resort Unken/Heutal and the resort of our neighbor village Lofer are both just 8km from the house. You can go there by car or bus.

In order to get to the Achberghütte all you need are good snow tires. However, we recommend snow chains if you intend to drive around a lot in the area.
